Flames Legend Miikka Kiprusoff's Jersey to be Retired

A Look Back at the Goaltending Great's Career

March 2 Ceremony to Honor Kiprusoff

The Calgary Flames have announced that Miikka Kiprusoff's jersey will be retired on March 2, 2024. Kiprusoff, who played for the Flames from 2003 to 2013, is one of the greatest goaltenders in franchise history. He won the Vezina Trophy in 2006 and was a key member of the Flames' Stanley Cup run in 2004. All fans in attendance at the retirement ceremony will receive a limited-edition t-shirt celebrating Kiprusoff's career.

Kiprusoff is now the fourth player in team history to have his jersey number retired, joining Lanny McDonald, Jarome Iginla, and Mike Vernon. He is also the first Finnish player to have his jersey retired by an NHL team.

"I am so grateful to the Flames organization and to the fans of Calgary for this incredible honor," Kiprusoff said. "This is something that I never would have dreamed of when I first came to North America. I am so proud to have been a part of this team and this city."

Kiprusoff's jersey retirement ceremony will take place before the Flames' game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 2. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. MT and will be followed by a video tribute to Kiprusoff's career.
