Tyrone Power
Early Life
Tyrone Power was born on May 5, 1914, in Cincinnati, Ohio. His parents were Irish immigrants Tyrone Power Sr. and Helen Emma Power. Power was the youngest of six children. His father was a successful actor, and his mother was a homemaker. Power's parents divorced when he was young, and he was raised by his mother in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Power attended Culver Military Academy in Indiana. He was a good student and a talented athlete. After graduating from Culver, Power attended the University of Cincinnati. He studied law for a year, but he soon decided to pursue a career in acting.
Career
Power's acting career began in 1932 when he appeared in a small role in the film Tom Brown of Culver. He went on to appear in several other small roles in films before landing his breakthrough role in the 1936 film Lloyd's of London. Power's performance in the film was critically acclaimed, and he became a star overnight.
Power went on to star in a number of successful films, including The Mark of Zorro (1940), The Black Swan (1942), and The Razor's Edge (1946). He became one of the most popular leading men in Hollywood and was often called "The King of Hollywood".
Personal Life
Power married four times. His first marriage was to actress Annabella in 1939. The couple had a daughter, Romina Francesca Power. Power and Annabella divorced in 1948. In 1949, Power married actress Linda Christian. The couple had two children, Tyrone Power Jr. and Romina Francesca Power. Power and Christian divorced in 1956. In 1958, Power married actress Debora Paget. The couple had one son, Tyrone Power IV. Power and Paget divorced in 1961. In 1962, Power married actress Janet Blair. The couple remained married until Power's death in 1958.
Death
Power died of a heart attack on November 15, 1958, in Madrid, Spain. He was 44 years old. Power was buried in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood, California.
Legacy
Power was one of the most popular leading men in Hollywood history. He starred in a number of successful films and was known for his good looks and charismatic personality. Power's legacy continues to this day, and he is still considered one of the greatest actors of all time.
