Julian Assange Pleads Guilty to Espionage, Freed from Prison

WikiLeaks Founder Expected to Travel Home to Australia

Assange Accepts Plea Deal to End Legal Battle

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been released from prison in the United Kingdom after pleading guilty to violating US Espionage law. As part of a plea deal, Assange is expected to travel home to Australia to serve his sentence.

Assange, who founded WikiLeaks in 2006, is known for publishing classified documents and information that has exposed government secrets and corruption. He has been facing charges in the United States since 2010, and has been held in prison in the UK since 2019.

The plea deal will allow Assange to avoid a trial that could have resulted in a lengthy prison sentence. The terms of the deal include a guilty plea to one count of conspiracy to commit computer intrusion, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Stella Assange, Julian's wife, spoke to reporters at a news conference after the plea deal was announced. "I hope the media realise the danger of this US case against Julian," she said. "It is a threat to all of us who believe in freedom of the press.
